On May 15th, VIXX, the 6 member boy group, released their 4th mini album titled Shangri-La. The album’s release was a part of a three-event festival titled VIXX V Festival to celebrate their 5th anniversary. Shangri-La consists of 6 tracks. VIXX’s main rapper, Ravi, composed the lyrics for each track.

Shangri-La
This is the wonderful title track for this mini-album. The lyrics talk of a passionate, all-consuming love. The lyrics utilise vivid imagery which is coming to life in the music video. The lyrics paint an image of beautiful perfect person only imaginable in dreams- fictional like Shangri-La, comparing her to aspects of a natural wonderland. Shangri-La is sweet with a catchy chorus which will have you stuck in paradise.

Into the Void
This second track paints a very different side of love than the first. Rather than passion, Into the Void is about the pain and misery which results from failed love. The instrumental is quite dark and eerie fitting of the lyrics.

Black Out
Instantly catchy. This track is significantly more upbeat than the one before, providing an instant mood lift. Black Out explores the lustful side of love.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5″ (다가오네; Dagaone)
This mellow track is about love approaching its end.

To Us
The penultimate track is a sweet ballad full of the promise of forever.

Shangri-La (Instrumental)
Just to prove that Shangri-La is an amazing song it’s on the album twice, this time as an instrumental- perfect for your own Karaoke session.

Shangri-La showcases Ravi’s talent as a composer as the lyrics of each track are full of meaning and beauty. This is a great EP to sit back and listen to. Each song explores a different aspect of love, from the highs to the lows so buckle up and enjoy the rollercoaster.
