In 2013, Nicola Formichetti, a frequent collaborator with singer-songwriter Lady Gaga, teamed up with Nippon Columbia to hold the POP ICON PROJECT TOKYO. Auditions “to discover a Japanese version of Lady Gaga” were held and three members were selected, Tsujikawa Nanami and Moriyasu Mako, both from Osaka, and Yasukawa Marisa from Chiba. They formed the girl group, Color Code.
Nanami Tsujikawa was born on December 3rd, 1991. She’s a really talented dancer and she likes to come up with choreographies. She also likes photography and, of course, fashion.
Mako Moriyasu is the second oldest and she was born on February 10th, 1992, in the same prefecture as Nanami. Also as Nanami, she is a jazz-hiphop dancer but as her hobbies she lists “people-watching, delusions and watching aura colors”.
Last but not least, Marisa Yasukawa is the group’s youngest. She was born on January 9th, 1993, and as her abilities she lists “chugging (water) and being normal”. Her hobbies are dancing, reading, studying painting and sleeping.
The unit name, “Color Code”, refers to the string of characters in computer language that is used to express “colors” on web pages, and was meant to represent “a unit that expresses various different colors”, a “universal unit”.
They released their debut single “I like Dat” on September 17th, 2014. Follow up single, “Hands UP!” was released on May 20th, 2015. Along with another distinctive song called Break Our Love that stands out showing us their fashion style in all ranges.
