E-Girls is currently a 27 member girl group, made up of sub-unit’s Dream, Happiness, Flower, Bunny and EGD.
The group debuted in late 2011 and their name stands for EXILE Girls Unit. At debut, the group only had 21 members, but soon after their first release, Dream’s Sayaka, and Happiness’ MIMU went on hiatus. For their next release in 2012, two more members joined the group. These were Kizu Reina and Suda Anna, who were both previously a part of EXPG or EXILE’s Dance Academy. Before the group begun their promotions for their 3rd release, the number of members increased to 31, although 2 were still on hiatus, due to the additions of sub-units Bunny and EDG.
Since the number of group numbers increased, this lead to a new system where only certain members would participate in each single. The members would undergo training each time, and those who excelled and fit the image of the single or album would be chosen. A total of 16 members out of the 31 were chosen for E-Girls‘ 3rd single ‘Follow Me’. Towards the end of 2012, 3 girls from Bunny left the group, and so all of the remaining 28 members released ‘The Never Ending Story’. However, a month later, only 13 members participated in the release of ‘Candy Smile’.
The group finally released their 1st album, ‘Lesson 1’, in early 2013, and it managed to rank first on the Oricon chart, selling 57,337 copies in it’s first week of release. Unfortunately, a few months later, Kizu Reina made her decision to leave the group. Nakajima Momoka was picked to replace her, and made her debut with ‘Gomennasai no Kissing You’.
In January 2014, Aya of Dream was appointed by HIRO of EXILE as the new leader of E-Girls, and the group released their 2nd full album, ‘COLORFUL POP’, on March 19th. Following the release, both Sugieda Mayu and Takeda Kyoka left the group to focus on acting and their studies.
In June 2014, their record label, LDH, announced that E-Girls would be releasing 3 singles over 2 months, the first being ‘E.G. Anthem -WE ARE VENUS-‘ in July. This was followed by ‘Odoru Ponpokorin’ in August, and ‘Highschool♡love’ in September.
E-Girls are a popular and talented group, so please check them out!
