Gakuto Kamui or Gackt is one of the most famous and successful solo-artists in Japan. He is truly multi-talented, because he is not only a singer and songwriter, but he is also able to play 8 different instruments. For more than 15 years, Gackt has been in the spotlight and his popularity is only increasing.


When he left the band Malice Mizer in 1999, in which he was the vocalist since 1995, nobody thought he could be successful as a solo-artist. But it is a fact that today, Gackt is one of the top entertainers in Japan. You can also say, that he brought Visual Kei out of Japan.

Beside his huge success in the music scene, he is also an actor and acted together with Hyde, the vocalist of L’Arc~en~Ciel, in the movie “Moon Child”. Gackt also wrote a part of the soundtrack for the game “Final Fantasy VII”, in which he also has his own character.


His career began when Gackt worked as drum engineer in a recording studio and as a drummer in a school band. When the vocalist of Cains:Feel left the band, Gackt joined the band in his place.
His popularity raised particularly when he joined Malice Mizer in 1995. While he was in the band, they had their highest degree of popularity. Gackt wrote in his autobiography, that he was pleased to leave the band because of personal, artistic and financial differences.
The official start of his solo career was the 1st January 1999. He began with a little group with the name GacktJOB. Their live shows included homoerotic actions with the other members of the group.
In the year 2006, the drummer of the band XJapan, Yoshiki, announced that he was t to found a band with Gackt, Sugizo and Miyavi. Only one year later, they gave debuted on the 26th June 2007 at the Anime Expo in Long Beach, California.
He is also part of the band YELLOW FRIED CHICKENz. In 2010 their performed their first concerts in Europe. Beside Gackt, Jon Underdown is the other vocalist. The other members are Chachamaru (guitar), You (guitar), Takumi (guitar), U:zo (bass) and Shinya (drum). In his career Gackt released  total of 20 albums and many singles.


His first single was Mizérable, released on 9th July 1999, followed by Vanilla on 11th August.
His first album with the title “Mizérable” came out on 12th May 1999. Lately he released Best of the Best Vol. 1 Mild and Best of the Best Vol. 1 Wild.
