Screw is a Japanese visual kei hard rock band that can be described as quite young as the founded the band in March 2006. The band as a very distinctive dark style both in their clothing style as well as in their music. The five members Byou (lead vocal), Kazuki (lead guitar and backing vocals), Manabu (rhythm guitar), Jin (drums and percussion) and Rui (bass) work under the label PS Company. The band was previously formed also by a sixth member, Yuuto (bass and backing vocals), who actually founded the band along with Byou but decided to leave in 2009. It was then when Rui got in as a replacement for him.
The first live performances of the band were very secretive. They gave 7 secret live performances as a promotion before their first concert ‘Homura e no kakusei’ which was well received by the audience. 2006 was full of live stage performances and concerts for the band which got them a name in the in the indie visual kei rock world in Tokyo. But 2007 was not different, a lot of work and a lot of concerts ahead for the band. This rhythm of work and the differences between the members took a toll and Yuuto decided to leave the band. Rui came just two months after that.
They have released 7 albums so far. ‘Nanairo no Reienka’ (2006), ‘Fusion of the Core’ (2007), ‘Racial Mixture’ (2009), ‘X-Rays’ (2009), ‘Anaphyaxis’ (2010), ‘Duality’ (2010), ‘Biran’ (2012).
As you can see they work nonstop even releasing two albums a year in 2009 and 2010. All of their albums, specially the last four have had great success in the Oricon indie chart.
In between albums, apart from tours, they also release a lot of great singles like ‘Nejireta Shiso’ which was actually their first single back in 2006, ‘Raging Blood’, ‘Cursed Hurricane’, ‘Deep Six’, or their latest single ‘Teardrop’ that was released on the 6th of February of this year.
They kept on working hard until 2012 came and they ‘went major’ with the release of their single ‘Xanadu’. They started a tour the same day the single was released, October 17th. The tour ended on December 9th at the great Osaka Muse. The whole tour was a great success for them that was only follow just two months later by the release of the great single ‘Teardrop’ on February 6th.
They are expected to start their latest tour on April 13th at the Osaka Muse and of course I think it will be amazing!
