Dal Shabet, signed under Happy Face Entertainment, is the first girl group formed by producers E-Tribe. The girls had a busy start to their career, and have shown to be versatile with their concepts. The group hasn’t gone without a change in line-up, though. In late May 2012, before the release of their first studio album, it was announced that leader Viki was leaving the band to start out as a solo artist, and that a new member, Woohee, would be added to the group. With this, Serri took the role of the leader.
Dal Shabet debuted in early January 2011 with the release of “Supa Dupa Diva”, which was followed by their second mini album “Pink Rocket” in April, third mini album “Bling Bling” in August, and fourth mini album, “Hit U”, in January 2012. Dal Shabet’s first studio album, titled “Bang Bang”, was released in early July. November 2012 saw the release of their fifth mini album, “Have, Don’t Have”, and about a week later, as a gift to their fans, Dal Shabet released a surprise music video for the song “For Darling”. The sixth mini album “Be Ambitious”, released in June 2013, was met with some controversy. Not only were the lyrics in the title song “Be Ambitious” deemed too sexual for live broadcast, and subsequently had to be changed prior to the promotions, according to a men’s rights group Man of Korea, the lyrics and music video were said to belittle both men and women as well as enlisted soldiers. Eventually, the matter was resolved. Dal Shabet made a comeback in early January 2014, with the release of their seventh mini album, titled “B.B.B”.
The group consists of six talented members, who all have wonderfully strong voices, and possess great songwriting skills. Serri, the leader and main vocalist, seems really calm and collected. Ah Young, the main rapper, seems quite outgoing. Jiyul, vocalist, seems mature. Woohee has a beautiful, distinct voice, and she’s also a great dancer. GaEun is the second rapper of the group, and it really feels like this is her strength. Subin, the maknae and lead vocalist, is really funny and full of energy.
The girls have proven to be hard-working professionals, which will no doubt take them far. We also hope to hear more self-written songs from the girls in the future!
