Eric Nam, an Atlanta, GA native, is a solo singer signed with B2M Entertainment. Born Nov 17th, 1988, Eric had been an average guy, attending Boston College for a degree in International Studies, studying abroad in China, playing guitar… so maybe he was a little more than average. Through his time in school, Eric continuously posted covers of popular Korean and English songs on Youtube, including “Wedding Dress” by Taeyang, and “Someone Like You” by Adele. His popularity online earned him a call from a representative with JYP. Eric was encouraged to attend a New York audition, however, the future-singer was still focused in his studies and turned down the generous offer. In 2011, Eric gained thousands of new fans when he recorded a cover of 2ne1’s popular song, “Lonely.” Though there were hundreds of cover videos created by aspiring singers, his got over 100,000 views and gave him the opportunity to become a star. The heads of MBC stumbled across his video and realized his potential to be a powerhouse in Korea’s music scene.
From there, the rest is history. He passed the auditions for the show MBC Star Audition: Birth of a Great Star 2 in December of 2011 and sang his way to the judges’ hearts. His duet with Bae Soojung covering Wonder Girls’ “2 Different Tears” was a highlight, showcasing his powerful vocals and impeccable harmonizing ability. Eric made it all the way to the Top 5 with support from his new fans and legendary singers Chan Ho Park and Lee Seung Hwan. Once his time on the competition program came to an end, Eric flew back to the U.S. to figure out whether or not he still wanted to pursue music professionally. Though he could’ve stayed in Atlanta to work at a highly-ranked consulting firm, Eric was still drawn to the world of music and decided to go back to Korea full-time. June 2012 saw his participation in a project group, Namaste. The short-lived quartet released a cover of “The Blue Night of Jeju Island” under the guidance of Lee Seung Hwan and Dream Factory. Almost immediately after, the singer went to New York as an MC for the third season of Star Audition of MBC Star audition.
In September 2012, the singer finally signed with B2M Entertainment, joining girl group Spica, iconic soloist Lee Hyori, and SS501 members Heo Young Saeng and Kim Kyu Jong. Shortly after, released his debut album “Cloud Nine.” Fans fell in love with Eric’s charming personality, smooth voice, and quirky, youthful image. You may have seen him as the host for Arirang TV’s popular program: “After School Club” or as a reporter for MBC’s “Section TV.” Eric has garnered a huge international fanbase and his Korean fandom is only growing! Make sure you look out for this boy-next-door in the coming years!
