Baek A Yeon and Wendy (Red Velvet) released a beautiful duet featuring NCT’s Jaehyun that proves there is no label rivalry when it comes to music. I really love this collaboration, and also when artists from different companies make music together because the tensions in the Kpop fandom are always based on fan wars and awards. This kind of music that brings different artists together is the one that proves music unites everyone and we should focus more on their talent rather than were the artist is coming from.
The song is a sad ballad, with a slow beat that could get boring if the singers’ vocals would not amazingly take you to another world. The 2 artists match so perfectly together that could easily pass for a band or girl group as if they were made to sing together. They really complement each other for this beautiful song that talks about lost, sadness and pain.
The song is mostly about the loss of a great love. It could be placed into the other millions of love songs, but I think this one deserves a better place. I love how pure the lyrics are, and how the message they send it not depressing, but rather melancholic. It talks about how difficult it is to live now that her love is gone, how impossible it is not to try and contact him, and also how she has to fake emotions when she would rather just hide under the blankets. What I like the most about the lyrics, besides the painful feelings that most of the lyrics send, are the last few verses, that gives the listener hope. At the ending, she talks about how she is ready to find someone, she needs love and affection, someone that would melt her heart. For me, that is a sign of positivity that shows that even if you suffered a great loss, you will heal and you will be ready to love again.
The Music Video is a little bit too simple in my opinion and does not have a story or a plot to follow. Of course, the aesthetics are gorgeous, as we could expect from companies like SM or JYP, but it does not make you die to find out more. It got better because it has Jaehyun in it, but overall it is not much happening in the MV.
