BTS, following their success in the US, have released a special music video produced by Steve Aoki titled “Mic Drop“. “Mic Drop” is actually a remix, which makes the video all the more unique!
BTS definitely had their international audience in mind when producing the music video and song. This time around, “Mic Drop” features more English verses and it even sounds slightly more.. autotuned. There was nothing particularly wrong with the original version but I guess BTS wished for the revamped version of “Mic Drop” to be more globally friendly, as the chorus has even changed! No matter, they still killed the song and it didn’t disappoint!
As for the music video, it starts off with BTS sitting in what looks like an interrogation room with a double sided mirror. The boys look sullen as they sit in the quiet, bleak room. That all changes however as Steve Aoki puts on his headphones, and the fun begins!
This music video reminds me of BTS’ earlier releases as it has more of a dark, edgier hip-hop vibe to it! Although the set itself is unlike those of “We Are Bulletproof pt.2” “No More Dream”, it still has a lot of power to it! It’s also pretty creepy – the black hooded figures that filled up the room sent a shiver down my spine!
The plot of the music video isn’t all that clear however I enjoyed watching it due to the choreography scenes! As always, BTS are on point with their dance moves and are totally in synch with each other. The dance also matches perfectly with this revamped version of “Mic Drop”! I also enjoyed watching the individual focus on the members’ dance scenes, it definitely gives new fans a chance to learn the faces of the group!
The only thing I disliked was how the boys were styled, in a way, their hip hop styling seemed a bit over the top! I personally think that simpler styles suit BTS more as too many accessories and eye-catching designs take the attention away from the group!
I believe that, especially for newcomers to BTS, this is a great video to start off with! “Mic Drop” is the perfect music video to show off the charms of the group and how multi-talented they are in all art forms! I give the music video a 4 out of 5 rating!
