Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan released a beautiful black and white music video for his track “Afterimage” which features on his latest album Tears of Emotions.
“Afterimage” is about the inability to forget your former partner. Although they have left, their afterimage remains and you can still see them in everyday activities.
The video begins with a quick montage of crying, broken glass and running, this montage ends with Kim Dong Wan letting out a scream as he runs. We are then introduced to a sleek black piano, keys being played without a player as we enjoy the beautiful piano melody. Much like the lyrics which are about being haunted by memories of your ex-girlfriend, the video is sombre with Kim Dong Wan looking depressed throughout. Short clips of the couple together appear in colour, contrasting the post-breakup black and white which dominates the majority of the video. Kim Dong Wan spends a significant amount of time singing his heart out on the roof of a car. As the video nears the ends we’re back to Kim Dong Wan running, he stops eyes widen and takes in the scene before him-himself lying on the roof of the car with his girlfriend crying.
“Afterimage” is a dramatic music video which perfectly depicts the pain felt when you are haunted with memories of your former partner, no matter how much you try to run away from them, they are always there.
