PIKOTARO started to viral trend of “Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen“!
He is introduced as being the 58 years old Japanese singer-songwriter with a kinky perm, sunglasses and clad in animal print. And he has now made his world debut with “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)” going viral. On October 7th he released 4 tracks, including “PPAP“, digitally in 134 coutires. It can be purchased through iTunes [HERE] or Spotify [HERE].
It all started when he revealed his song on YouTube and it spread from within Japan to other countries and also overseas. TIME, BBC, CNN and other global media in Europe, US, and Asia took notice of the sensation who all covered the story. Additionally, well known Justin Bieber tweeted tweeted about it and wrote that it is his “favorite video”, which created another buzz.
PIKOTARO himself reacted and tweeted “Master Justin Bieber…?!” and now his profile reads “ My life saver is Justin Bieber.”
Meanwhile, a lot of people, especially other celebrities, from around the world started to cover the song, which helps to spread it even more! The bizarre phrase is spreading more and more. Korean artists such as UP10TION and A-JAX also covered it, you can check it out below!
More artists have joined the “PPAP” trend and this time it’s MONSTA X‘s turn! Members Kihyun and Minhyuk teamed up for an adorable onesie version at around the 0:36 mark in the video. Whilst I.M decided for a more comical route, matching even his outfit so that it’s similar to the original.
